APC Citizen Petitions Demand Congress Reject Executive Order Blitz, National Sovereignty Be Protected

The leaders of Congress have just been hit with a blizzard of citizen petitions spearheaded by the American Policy Center. They call for hearings on the American Land Sovereignty Protection Act and a response to President Clinton's flood of Executive Orders that create policy and circumvent the powers of the Congress.

"Ending Clinton's assault on the Constitution by Executive Order must be the first priority of the 106th Congress. Protecting US sovereignty is the second priority," said Tom DeWeese, president of the American Policy Center, a grassroots, activist think tank.

Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert, received over 120,000 petitions demanding an end to illegal executive orders. Senator Don Nickles (R-OK) Chairman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, received over 40,000 petitions demanding the passage of the American Land Sovereignty Protection Act (S.510).

"While the attention of Americans is focused on the presidential campaigns, some of the most important legislation to protect the primacy of the US Constitution and the preservation of national sovereignty is before Congress, requiring action," said DeWeese. The Center is headquartered in Herndon, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC.

"These petitions, signed by over 160,000 citizens from around the nation, make clear the need to reassert the sovereignty of this nation from the tentacles of United Nations treaties. Of equal importance is the attack on Constitutional powers." The Center is continuing to secure more signatures.

DeWeese noted that 68.6% of all US parks and historic sites are now designated United Nations Biospheres and Historic Sites. They include Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Thomas Jefferson's home in Virginia, and the Statue of Liberty. Parks include the Grand Canyon, the Everglades, and Yellowstone.
