September 18, 2000
One of the biggest
pro-sovereignty and private property rights bills in recent history will
be voted on in the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on
Wednesday, September 20. The American Land Sovereignty Protection Act
(S.510) would protect national sovereignty and private property rights by
requiring congressional approval before United States land can be declared
a U.N. Biosphere Reserve or World Heritage Site.
Currently, over 51 million
acres of U.S. land have been designated U.N. Biosphere Reserves and World
Heritage Sites—WITHOUT CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL!!!
Congress MUST be given the
power to prevent the U.N. from inflicting any more pain and suffering on
U.S. landowners.
Through its Biosphere
Reserves and Heritage Sites, the United Nations has been successful in
kicking property owners off their land, stifling the mining industry and
crippling timber companies.
SINCE WHEN DOES THE U.N.
HAVE MORE OF A SAY IN UNITED STATES LAND POLICY THAN U.S. LAND OWNERS?!
The following Senators in
the Energy Committee are straddling the fence, and have not committed to
supporting this vital piece of pro-sovereignty legislation. They are:
Sen. Peter Fitzgerald
(R-IL): (202) 224-2854
Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA):
(202) 224-5824
Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM):
(202) 224-5521
Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND):
(202) 224-2551
If we don’t pass S. 510
before the October 6 recess—WE WILL HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN IN THE
NEXT CONGRESS!!
Action to Take
1. Call the members of the
Energy Committee listed above, ESPECIALLY SEN. FITZGERALD, and urge them
to support the "American Land Sovereignty Protection Act."
2. It is also urgent that
you CALL BOTH OF YOUR SENATORS and demand that they cosponsor S. 510.
Also, urge them to ask Sen. Majority Leader Trent Lott to bring S. 510 to
the floor for a vote before Congress adjourns on October 6. Capitol Hill
Switchboard: (202) 224-3121. (Simply ask for your Senator by name)
