Many property rights groups have said it couldn’t be done. But the effort to repeal the hated Endangered Species Act (ESA) is beginning to gain some momentum.
A coalition led by the American Land Foundation, Stewards of the Range and the American Policy Center has now gathered more than 4500 signatures for a letter to the United States Senate calling for repeal of the ESA.
Signers of the letter are a mixture of affected property owners, local grassroots leaders and national organizations.
For more than 10 years, while property owners suffered under the devastating controls of the ESA, property rights groups have been told by Capitol Hill leaders, to not even mention repeal of this sacred cow of the radical environmental movement. It was "too dangerous," to think that way, said many so-called property rights leaders. Instead, activists were told to never say "repeal;" never even say "reform." "Update and Strengthen" were the words we were told to use.
"Hell will freeze over before I will advocate ‘updating and strengthening’ the worst legislation to ever come out of the U.S. Congress," said Tom DeWeese, president of the American Policy Center. "Repealing the ESA is the only sound solution. Then, if we must, start over."
For an honest debate on the ESA, simple facts must get through the muck of propaganda about the effectiveness of the law. The American people need to know that the law is a complete failure in its stated mission to protect endangered animals and plants. The fact is, in the 32 years since the ESA has been on the books, just 34 of the nearly 1300 U.S. species listed have made their way off the list. Of this number, 9 species are now extinct, 14 appear to have been improperly listed, and just 9 have recovered sufficiently to be delisted. A less than 1% recovery rate proves the ESA does nothing to protect endangered species.
Yet, the law is the worst kind of land grab, giving the government unprecedented power to shut down industries, damage the economy, kill whole towns and destroy lives in the name of protecting the environment. No free nation can live under such tyranny.
Now, Americans have a chance to do what has always been needed, but too many were afraid to even mention in the light of day. REPEAL THE ESA.
In the next few weeks, the letter to congress will be delivered, calling for Repeal of the ESA. If you want to be a part of this historic event, then join the repeal effort by signing the letter today. Here’s your chance to do the right thing and stand for freedom.
ACTION TO TAKE:
Sign the letter to Congress calling for Repeal of the ESA.
The full letter can be found at www.stewards.us and can be signed on line. The large number of signatures on this letter will send shock waves through those who smugly think repeal is impossible. The more signatures we have the more those on the fence will be encouraged to join the repeal effort. Please sign on and get your friends and neighbors to do the same. It’s time we stop playing politics with peoples lives and start doing what is right. REPEAL THE ESA.

Senator Arlen Specter is blocking Eminent Domain bill
Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) and Chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary committee, is blocking action on the Property Rights Protection Act (S.1313).
The bill was introduced in June, 2005 by Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) in response to the shocking Supreme Court’s Kelo VS New London, CT decision that said local and state governments can bull doze private homes to build shopping malls and luxury condos. S.1313 would cut off federal funds to cities that use Eminent Domain for community development projects.
The House passed it’s own version of the bill several months ago. Senator Specter did hold headings on the bill in September, where Suzette Kelo gave dramatic testimony about her case that led to the Supreme Court showdown. But that’s where action stopped. Today, S.1313 sits in Specter’s committee, apparently forgotten.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the National League of Cities have lobbyists pouring over Capitol Hill trying to persuade Congress to defeat the legislation and not diminish their power to take private property at their whim. Senator Specter apparently is stalling action on S.1313 to give these two powerful groups time to make their case.
Senator Specter is playing political games with your right to own and control private property. He is siding with big government land grabs over private property owners. Senator Specter, the Mayors Conference and the National League of Cities hope you will forget your outrage over the Supreme Court decision. They are hoping the fire of the property rights revolt brought on by the Kelo decision will burn out.
You and I cannot let this happen.
ACTION TO TAKE:
First, call or write Senator Specter and demand that he stop stalling and allow a vote in his Judiciary Committee on the Property Rights Protection Act (S.1313).
Write or call Senator Specter’s office:
Senate Office Number: (202) 224-4254
Fax Number: (202) 228-1229
E-mail Address: arlenspecter@specter.senate.gov
Senate Office Address: SH-711 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510-3802
Tell Senator Specter that you support the Property Rights Protection Act S.1313 and you want the bill passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee and sent to the Senate for a full vote by the U.S. Senate.
Write or call both of your state’s U.S. Senators to urge them to support S.1313.
Capitol Hill Switchboard: (202) 224-3121
Or write: Senator ________________

Stop Big Pharmaceutical from taking away your medical choice
From Dr. Julian Whitaker, MD
Women who use natural medications, specifically Bio-identical hormones are in danger of losing their right to use these safe, effective, natural therapies.
This issue is vital to all Americans because the huge pharmaceutical industry is losing money as more people are switching to natural cures.
In an effort to stop its losses one major pharmaceutical company is now putting pressure on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ban the use of any compound medicines. Compound medicines are those created especially for individual patients to treat specific needs. Such treatments cannot be done through generic pills designed for the masses, as the pharmaceutical industry provides.
Wyeth, one of the world's pharmaceutical giants, filed a Citizen Petition with the FDA requesting that compounding pharmacies be prohibited from providing natural hormones - and we only have until April 4, 2006, to stop them.
Show Me the Money
For years, Wyeth counted their mass-produced Premarin (conjugated estrogen) and Prempro (Premarin and synthetic progesterone) among their best selling drugs. However, since 2002, when a large, well-publicized clinical trial showed that these drugs increased risk of breast cancer, blood clots, heart attacks and strokes, sales have plummeted from more than $2 billion in 2002 to $880 million in 2004.
The petition, which is rife with inaccuracies, is supported by a number of medical societies and patient advocacy groups that have financial ties to Wyeth. In fact, even the FDA has financial ties to Wyeth, reaping in the form of "drug user fees" required by the agency.
Folks, this isn't about protecting women from the "dangers" of natural hormones. It's about protecting Wyeth's bottom line.
Action to Take:
We must hold off this threat to freedom of choice in the medical marketplace. Voice your opposition to the Wyeth petition at the FDA website. Simply fill in the required information, followed by your comments.
Tell the FDA that any attempt to ban compound medicines takes away your right to have natural, personal treatments. Tell them you don’t want to lose your rights simply because a huge pharmaceutical corporation like Wyeth, is losing money. Tell the FDA you vigorously oppose their attempts to take away your freedom of choice in the medical marketplace.
Act today. The comment filing period ends on April 4, 2006.
