Senate Democrats Trying to Highjack Energy
Bill—Where’s Bush? Your Calls Needed!
The Senate and the House of Representatives are
currently in conference, trying to determine whose version of the energy bill
to send President Bush for review. For the sake of our economy, our modern-day
necessities and our general quality of life, we need to make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN
that the House’s version is the one that crosses the President’s desk!
The House energy bill is just that: an ENERGY
bill. It takes the necessary steps to quench our nation’s growing thirst for energy.
For example, the House bill seeks to eliminate the bureaucratic red tape that
is hindering the construction of new pipelines and infrastructure. Also, the House
bill would allow oil and gas exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
(ANWR). Oil exploration in ANWR is quickly becoming an matter of national security
considering the contentious situation in the oil-exporting Middle East. ANWR could
produce an amount of oil equivalent to 30 YEARS worth of imports from our biggest
foreign supplier, Saudi Arabia. We MUST open ANWR to exploration!
Meanwhile, the Senate’s energy bill seeks to
STIFLE our energy supply. The Senate bill is a green’s dream, as it would implement
Kyoto-like restrictions on industry. The Senate bill:
- will drive up energy costs by requiring utilities
to harness a portion of their electricity from expensive, unreliable sources like
the wind…
- BANS oil exploration in ANWR—even though a
former head of OPEC recently predicted that the price per barrel of oil could
TRIPLE to $100 if the U.S. goes to war with Iraq. Remember the gas lines of the
‘70s?…
- mandates higher use of ethanol in gasoline—ethanol
is TWICE as expensive as petroleum-based fuels.
Why is the Democrat-controlled Senate attempting
to destroy our energy future? The answer is presidential politics. Democratic
Senators Tom Daschle (SD), John Kerry (MA) and Joe Lieberman (CT) are using the
energy bill as the first move in their presidential campaigns. This anti-energy
bill is their ticket to gaining endorsements from radical environmental groups.
They are willing to sacrifice our energy future for radical environmentalist campaign
dollars.
What’s worse is that the White House might let
them get away with it. Much like he did with the disastrous education bill, President
Bush may sign the Democrats’ anti-energy bill just so he can claim a "bi-partisan
victory" and move on to other things. This would be a CATASTROPHIC blunder
by the President. He must put politics aside and rescue our energy future from
the radical, global-warming crowd! No energy bill would be FAR better than the
Senate’s disaster!
* Action to
Take *
1. Call President Bush and urge him to strongly
support the House energy bill! Tell him to denounce the Senate’s anti-energy debacle!
The House energy bill NEEDS President Bush’s vocal support if it is to become
a reality. Our energy future depends on this bill! White House: (202) 456-1111.

Stand with your fellow Americans for property rights! Join Tom DeWeese and
the Sawgrass Rebellion in Florida
Property owners in Florida are now feeling the
full force of the worldwide attack on property rights and individual liberty.
We’ve warned of the coming devastation that is being caused by such programs as:
sustainable development, the Wildlands Project, smart growth and the UN’s Agenda
21. All of these schemes are used to take property, stop human progress and build
the power of a central government. Above all, they have absolutely nothing to
do with protecting the environment.
Now, as the lack of science and reason culminate
in the loss of homes, jobs and catastrophic forest fires, Americans are finally
beginning to see that something is wrong. More victims are learning in a brutal
way that the radical environmental movement isn’t so innocent. With their allies
in federal agencies such as the Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service
and the Army Corp of Engineers, armed with truckloads of rules and regulations
designed to take property from private owners, their true socialistic goals are
becoming obvious. They do not believe in property rights. They do not believe
in free enterprise. And they do not believe in the United States Constitution.
They care only for their own agenda and their own world vision.
That’s why on October 17, 18, and 19, more than
25,000 Americans are descending on Naples, Florida, for the largest property rights
rally in the history of the nation. Together, these activists, who have fought
on the front lines in their own communities, will gather together on the latest
battleground in Florida to send a loud and clear message to the powers in the
nation’s capital that it’s no longer going to be so easy to destroy our rights.
American Policy Center president, Tom DeWeese,
along with a host of property rights spokesmen from across the nation will address
the rally. This is your chance to make your voice heard like never before. Join
us in October. For more information, go to APC’s website at www.americanpolicy.org.
Once there, click on the "Sawgrass Rebellion" banner at the top.
Now is the time to stand together for property
rights – before they come for yours.
