Freedom21 Conference Sponsors National Vote for Freedom's Heroes Award

The Freedom21 National Conference, to be held August 13 - 15 at the Sheraton Midwest City Conference Center, Oklahoma City, OK, will award two "Freedom's Heroes" awards during the event. To select the winners, Freedom21 has established an online ballot at the conference website. Everyone is encouraged to vote. Freedom21 is also asking radio programs and Internet News sites to promote the award selection in order to get the widest vote possible. The awards will be presented to the winners at the conference banquet.

There are two categories for the Freedom's Heroes Awards. First is to recognize an outstanding elected official who has stood up against his/her colleagues to protect our freedoms. The other will go to an outstanding, non-elected activist who has taken the fight on his/her shoulders, and defended liberty at all costs.

In nominating the candidates for the Freedom's Heroes Awards, Freedom21 deliberately chose not to nominate many of the well known and perhaps obvious leaders in the freedom movement, choosing instead to focus on lesser known grassroots and local leaders who had the courage to face down their adversaries and perhaps sacrifice personal safety and careers for their defense of liberty. There are thousands of such heroes across the nation. We wanted to honor them.

Nominees for the elected officials Freedom's Heroes award include:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff, for his views that prisoners are in jail to be punished and for his aggressive stand against illegal immigration.

Oklahoma State Senator Randy Brogdon, the legislator who has said, "The Trans Texas Corridor will not cross the Oklahoma Border." Senator Brogdon has become one of the nation's most effective legislators to recognize dangers and stop them at the legislative level.

Michigan State Representative John Garfield, a major opponent and leader in the battle to stop gun control. He has a passion for the Bill of Rights.

Arizona State Senator Karen Johnson (former) a powerful voice in the Arizona legislature, sounding the alarm against Arizona's attempts to create its own union with Mexico, standing firm to stop amnesty for illegals and against state participation in Real ID.

Oklahoma State Representative Charles Key, for 20 years he has called for strong state sovereignty rights, now leading the nation-wide effort to get states to defend the 10th Amendment against a powerful federal takeover.

Pennsylvania State Representative Sam Rohrer, who has become one of the nation's strongest voices against the creation on an International ID system of big brother surveillance.

Mayor Mae Smith, of Holland Texas, the first mayor to stand up to the Texas Department of Transportation in opposition to the Trans Texas Corridor. She recruited numerous state and local leaders to join her in blocking its path, slowing down, if not stopping, the project.

Nominees for the non-elected Freedom's Heroes award include:

Bob Basso, released an inspiring YouTube video portraying Thomas Paine to rally the nation to take action against misdeeds and to support Constitutionally- guaranteed rights - calling on Americans to stand up and defend their rights.

Steve Bierfeldt, at the young age of 25 has proven great courage and strength of his convictions by standing alone in a windowless airport room, refusing to be intimidated by TSA agents as they interrogated him, threatened arrest and demanded answers to personal questions they had no right to ask.

Don Casey, for years, as a volunteer, has alerted the citizens of Alabama to the dangers of land grab policies like Sustainable Development, producing an impressive library of educational videos and standing against policies that infringe on private property rights.

Norm Davis, one of the most effective state leaders as head of the grassroots activist group, Take Back Kentucky. He has created near unprecedented influence in the Kentucky legislature to safeguard constitutionally-protected freedoms.

Paul Garfield, a local activist in Michigan, who has been involved with United Seniors Association (now called USA Next), The 60 Plus Association, and Christian Seniors, he has also been an activist in support of Gun Rights.

Zeldon Nelson, Director of the National Center for Constitutional Studies, has led the effort to distribute more than two million copies of the Constitution to American citizens. He has also led the effort to provide materials for thousands of school districts to use on Constitution Day to educate students about American freedoms.

Ralph and Marcia Snyder, started the first sub-regional coordination commission to stand up and fight the Trans Texas Corridor (TTC). Their efforts led to eight more counties standing up to the Texas Department of Transportation against the TTC, effectively killing the master plan.

Kevin Starrett, head of the Oregon Firearms Association, has written a book (Oregon’s Gun Laws) and is an Oregon grassroots leader, standing firm for a variety of freedom-related issues.

These are the nominees for this year's Freedom's Heroes Award. The nominations were made by the co-sponsoring groups who come together every year to produce the Freedom21 National Conference. These groups include, the American Policy Center, Freedom21, Inc, Eagle Forum, Freedom Advocates, Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT), ED Watch, American Land Foundation, Stewards of the Range, The August Review, Gun Owners of America, Camp American, Constitutional Alliance, American Heritage Research, Institute of Principled Policy, National Center for Constitutional Studies, OK-SAFE, Sovereignty International, and the Liberty Coalition.

The message of Freedom21 is unique to every other conference in the nation. While many try to explain the reasons for the economic crisis and the strife and pain many of us are experiencing, Freedom21 goes to the very root of the problem. Each of these issues can be traced back to international policy, specifically Agenda 21 and its policy of Sustainable Development - a top down government control operating through non-elected regional governments and planning boards. The entire agenda is based on enforcing climate change policy.

Freedom21 connects the dots from Agenda 21 to federal policies, like energy, air and water. And the dots connect further to state legislatures and policies like the Trans Texas Corridor and immigration. And they go further to local policies affecting city councils and county commissions as they deal with Smart Growth and development. And there's more to the agenda, including the radical changes in our public education system and the growing threat of a big brother surveillance society. Americans know something is very wrong in our society, but most don't understand what it is. The theme for this year's conference is, "The Growing American Tyranny and How to Stop It."

Internet news sites, radio programs, organizations and publications are invited and encouraged to help Freedom21 choose this year's first annual Freedom's Heroes Award recipients by discussing the project, or establishing a link for the voting on their web sites. Special logos are available.
